Making Your Business Work for You

If you knew then what you know now, would you still have started your business?

I’m hoping the answer is yes, but maybe you would have approached it differently.

Running a business is hard work, especially if you’ve never done it before.

You might have started your own business because you wanted to be your own boss, or an opportunity came along you couldn’t pass up so, you just started it. The idea of learning how to run a business is probably not something you considered too much at the start. If Jo(e) Bloggs from across the street can do it then it can’t be that difficult, surely?

The realities of running a business

Whatever the reason, it’s unlikely you expected the workload. You quickly would have realised that having a good idea or skill was only the first step and what began as a dream turned into something much bigger than you expected. There’s the marketing, sales, customers, finances, social media, IT, and staff to deal with. And that’s not even mentioning the work itself – the very reason you started your business.

It can be overwhelming and despite the number of hours you put into it, it never seems to get any easier.

Would it surprise you to know that you aren’t on your own in how you feel? There are thousands of business owners out there feeling the same.
In late 2021, the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy found that 96% of small business owners admit to bottling up the stress of running their business, while one in five were considering giving it up completely.

That’s a lot of people. There’ll be different stresses for those people who were asked, and we certainly won’t pretend to be the answer to everyone’s problems. But there are some we can help.

How do we know this?

Over the past 15 years, we’ve worked with many business owners who have come to us for help because they’re overwhelmed. They don’t fully understand how to run a business and why would they? They’re good at what they do but knowing what you need to have in place for your business is a whole different ball game.

Often, the people we helped didn’t want any more customers. Whaaat??

Think about it. They already had too much going on and didn’t have the time to deal with anything else. They knew there was a better way to do things but didn’t know what that was. Or if they did know what they were supposed to be doing, they didn’t have the headspace to get everything in place because there were too many other demands on their time. I bet there’s a lot of people who can relate to that.

Happily, after streamlining their operations and getting their head in the game, they could handle more demand. This meant more customers and steady business growth. And less stress!

But you already have too much to do!

The great news is, you don’t have to complicate things when it comes to getting your business in order.

At Business Booms, we’re all about simplicity. Who needs to add complicated strategies when you already have a lot going on? Free up time and energy by having a better understanding of what you need to do. Know what you need to work on and how to do it more efficiently. Build solid foundations for your business so that when more customers come, you can handle them. Trying to grow a business without solid foundations is like building a house on shifting sand – it rarely ends well.

This is why we started our business. To help other people who run their businesses understand how to do it better and to provide accountability, even for those who know what they’re supposed to be doing but just can’t find the head space to get it done.
