We met when we started school at age 4 and immediately became best friends. We really were inseparable and very competitive in both our academic and sporting achievements.
It’s ironic that having always wished we were sisters, Jane’s married name is Sharon’s maiden name, so we nearly got there!!!
We started working together about 13 years ago when we worked on a business support contract for our local council.
We are Ying and Yang when it comes to our professional skills and abilities and what we enjoy doing, but our work ethics and drive are totally on the same page. Jane is more creative, whereas Sharon is super organised, which is a match made in heaven. After over 50 years of knowing each other, it’s exciting to be working together on our own business supporting like-minded businesses.
Sharon owns several businesses and there have been times when she felt like the pressure of owning her own business far outweighed the benefits. As a sole trader, trying to juggle all the tasks required to operate e.g. marketing, book-keeping, stock control, etc left no time to do the tasks she loved and the reason she started her own business in the first place. And despite being super organised, Sharon never felt on top of things.
Jane has coached, trained and mentored people for decades. She has worked specifically with SMEs for over 15 years, supporting them with many different aspects of their businesses including the people side and the running of their business.
Following conversations with each other, we realised there was a pattern with some of the businesses we were supporting in that they felt very similar to Sharon and her experiences with her businesses.
That’s when we decided to pool our skillsets and set up our business to help other business owners get a better grip on their business so they can get more from it.
We want to provide a service to business owners that will help them not only in their business but will also give them a better balance of work, rest and play.
We’ll feel a real sense of achievement knowing we are making a difference to other people’s lives and we want Business Booms to be a place that individuals and small businesses turn to when looking for help and support to achieve their success.
We started out sitting next to each other at our school desks and it would be great if we finished our careers sitting next to each other at our work desks. What a journey that would be!
